Which type to take up?
For frequent flyers or long term student, with travel plans that is more than a year, a different insurance will apply than to that of a family touring Europe for a couple of weeks. You’ll need a package that offers a lot more, including benefits that protects you in the long term in case if you lose anything during your overseas stay. Furthermore, nowadays, insurance companies offer competitive yearly policy that is cheaper than the one-off travel insurance.
Where are you travelling to?
There are both medical and legal costs associated with medical services, no matter where you are in the world. Some countries, however, differ significantly from another so it’s important you’re aware of the fees you could be facing. Furthermore, some locations or countries are more prone to certain diseases, be aware of it and take the necessary medication or vaccinations before the trip.
What is your age?
Often times, the elderly often pay more because of their health risks and issues. Younger people are likely to pay less, but this is dependent on your provider. Make sure you research who offers the most competitive quote for your age.
What do you plan on doing during your trip?
If you’re going to be taking valuable belongings away with you (e.g. a camera or laptop), make sure your policy covers them. Additionally, think about whether you’ll be participating in risky activities such as bungy-jumping or hang gliding – will you be covered if an accident occurs?
